The last train was due in 20 minutes and I made it to
the station just in time to catch it. If I had missed it,
I would have had to take a taxi home.
" 마지막 기차가 20후에 도착예정이었는데, 나는
그 기차 시간에 늦지않게 도착해서 기차를 타는데
성공했다. 만약, 그 기차를 놓쳤더라면, 택시를
타고 집에 가야했을것이다.
( 가능한 한 마지막 기차전에 귀가하셔야죠! )
Words,Phrases & Patterns
> The train is due in 20 mins; 기차가 20후에 도착예정인....
> make it to...; ..의 목적지에 도착하는데 성공하다.
> make it to...; ..의 목적지에 도착하는데 성공하다.
> take a taxi home ; 택시타고 집에가다
여기서 in time 은 시간에 늦지않게, 제 시간에 의
뜻입니다. 시간에 늦지않게 도착하다 라고할때 많이
씁니다. 반면에 on time은 바로 그 시간에, 정시에
란 뜻입니다.
우리말로, (기차/약속시간에) 좀 여유있게 늦지않게 도착하다
라고 말하고 싶을때는 in time 을 쓰시고, 아주 딱 그시간에
도착하다 라고 말할때는 on time를 써 보세요.
예를들어,
a. The train arrived right on time.( 기차가 딱 정시에 도착했다 )
b. Will we be in time for the six o'clock train?
( 우리 6시 기차에 늦지않게 도착할까? )
c. The ambulance got there just in time .
( 엠블런스가 바로 제시간에(늦지않게) 거기에 도착했다 )
