Good morning all,

 

3 days already have passed since year 2009 got started!

 

It is a bit dark and cloudy sky this morning here in Tokyo.

According to TV news, it is about 5.8 degrees this morning and

it will be about 10 degrees during daytime.

 

Here is Today's English

 

Seq 53 ( unit 3 ) : lessons 3 관사 (a,an,the)의 쓰임의 예문

 

1. Richard has two cars and a motorcycle

2. Arthur moved to a new apartment last week. There are five families in the apartment.

3. Angela prefers wine and beer

4. I prefer classical music to pop music

5. Dr.Smith graduated from Harvard University in 1980

6. The advice you gave me was very helpful.

7. The wine is sweet.

 

Words,Phrases & Patterns

> prefer A to B ; B보다 A를 선호하다. 여기서 to는 라틴어로 ...보다의 비교의 than.

> graduate from ; ...를 졸업하다.

 

관사에 대해서 다시한번 간단히 정리하면;

 

1. 부정관사 a,an : 부정관사의 부정(不定)은 불특정(不特定)의 의미
- 여러개중에 불특정의 한사람, 하나. 우리말로 하나의...

- a, an은 가산명사(셀수있는 명사-보통명사)의 단수에 꼭 붙임

- 불가산명사(셀수없는명사-고유명사,물질명사,추상명사)는 셀수 없는 명사이니까,

a, an 안붙임

 

2. 정관사 the : 정관사의 정(定)은 특정(特定)의 의미

- 대화하는 사람사이에 서로 알고 있는 특정의 것. 그.....

- 가산명사에도, 불가산명사에도 사용함

- 단, 사람의 이름등을 나타내는 고유명사에는 원칙적으로 못씀

- 물질명사, 추상명사에는 특정의것을 나타낼때는 씀

( 물질명사) The wine, The coffee

(추상명사) The advice, The information

 

예문에서;

1번은 car는 가산명사이고, 복수이니까 - cars, motorcycle 도 가산명사이고 단수이니까,

a motorcycle

2번은 partment는 가산명사이고, a new partment 는 어느 하나의 아파트, the partment는 그 아파트

3번은 wine, beer는 물질명사(불가산명사)로 a 못씀

4번은 music, pop는 추상명사(불사산명사)로 a 못씀

5번은 Dr.Smith, Harvard University는 고유명사(불가산명사)로 a 못씀

6번은 advice 는 추상명사이지만, 당신이 준 충고라는 특정의 것이니까, the advice

7번은 wine는 물질명사이지만, 그 와인은 달다로 특정의 것을 가리키니까, the wine

 

주의; 정관사 the는 가산, 불사산에도 쓰는데, 고유명사에만 원칙적으로 못쓴다.

예를들어, 고유명사 New York 에 the 안붙이고씀.

단지, 호텔, 신문등의 이름으로 the New York이라고 쓸뿐.  

 

우리말로; 이제 영작할때 영어의 명사에 관사를 어떻게 써야하는지 신경 써 보세요!

 

예를들어;

(a) The website was created to provide information about the company's range of products.

( information ; 추상명사로 셀수 없으므로 a 안붙였음 )

(b) Lock the door when you go out ( 말하고있는 사람 사이에 문이 현관문임을 알고

말하는거니까, 특정의 the 를 붙임)
