-> 여러분, 우리 어제까지 동사 depend on 이, 다음의 세가지 뜻으로 사용됨을 공부했죠

1. ....의 여하에 달려있다
 
특히, depend on 뒤에, 의문사 what/where/how 가 오는 경우와, whether가 오는 경우에는 전치사 on 을 생략해서 써도 된다는 것을 공부했죠.

It depends on whether she likes you or not.

=  It depends whether she likes you or not.

그건 그녀가 너를 좋아하는지 아닌지에 달려있다.

2. ....에 의존하다 = rely on

1. 일본은 외국의 석유에 의존하고 있다.

2. 그는 그의 생활비를 여전히 부모에 의존하고 있다.

1. Japan depends on foreign oil.

2. He still depends on his parents for his living expenses.

3. ....를 믿다, 신뢰하다 = trust

1. 난 너의 말을 믿어.

2. 제인은 믿어도 되 - 그녀는 항상 약속을 지키거든

1. I depend on your word.

2. You can depend on Jane - she always keep her promises.

-> 이 동사 depend on....은, 제가 요즘 출퇴근 전철안에서 읽고 있는 'What to do when you're new'  에서도 여러번 나오는데, 그 중에 몇곳을 소개해 드리겠습니다.

다음 문장에서 이 depend on...은 어떤 뜻으로 쓰인 경우인지 보세요.

(상대에게 자기 소개를 하고 나서 끝맺음은 어떤 말로 끝내면 좋은가의 예,) 

There are many ways to phrase an ending, depending on the situation:

"Great meeting you, Sarah. I really appreciate the conversation, and 

look forward to working with you on this project. If I have any more

questions, do you mind if I stop by sometime?"

끝맺음의 말을 표현하는 방법에는, 상황에 따라서 여러가지가 있다.

"Sarah씨 만나서 정말 좋았어요.  대화할 수 있어서 정말 고마웠고요,

이 프로젝트에서 같이 일할 수 있기를 기대할께요. 혹시, 제가

질문이 더 있으면 다시 찾아뵈도 될까요?"

[ 단어 ]

** appreciate; (동) ...를 고맙게 여기다

** phrase; (동) ...을 말로 나타내다

** look forward to ....ing; ....하기를 기대하다

** do you mind if I......; 제가 ...해도 괜찮아요?

-> 위 단문에서 depend on...은, .....의 (여하에) 달려있다 의 뜻으로 쓰인 경우이죠.

(초면의 사람에게 자기소개를 하는 경우에 우리는 보통 좀 주저하게 되는데,)

"그 주저함은 상대의 나에 대한 상대적인 지위에 달려있습니까

(예를들어, 나의 보스 (윗사람들), 전문가들, 선생님들, 코치들)?

상대가 여자인지 남자인지에 따라서도 주저하게 됩니까?
