Let's start Today with vigor!

 

It is dark cloudy this morning and according to weather

forecast, it will be rainy from this evening here in Tokyo.

This morning it is about 8.3 degrees which is 4 degrees

higher than yesterday and daytime highs will be about

10 degrees.

 

Here is today's english!

( 오늘날의 젊은이들이 정치에 완전히 무관심? )

언급했다. " 일반적으로 오늘날의 젊은이들은 국내에서든,

국외에서든 정치에 완전히 무관심이야"

 

Words,Phrases & Patterns

> be filled with ; ...로 꽉 차다 

> misgiving ; (명사)(미래 어떻게될지...) 불안, 걱정
> senator ; (미국,카나다,프랑스..) 상원의원, the Senate 상원

> observe ; (공식적) 말하다, 코맨트하다

> whether A or B ; (부사절) A 든 B 든 상관없이

> utterly ; 완전히, = completely 를 더 강조한것

> indifferent to ...; ...에 무관심한... ( be interested in... 관심있는)
 

여기서 indifferent to  은 ...에 무관심한, 관심이 없는 의 뜻입니다.

...에 관심이 있는 은 be interested in....

 

여러분이 잘 아는 different 는 ...와 다른 의 뜻으로 A is different from B

로 A 는 B 와 다르다의 뜻이 됩니다.

  

be indifferent to ; ..에 무관심하다

be interested in ; ...에 관심/흥미가 있다

be different from ; ...와 다르다 

 

참고로, whethere at home or abroad 는 원래는

whether they(the youth) are at home or they are abroad

로 부사절에서 주어+동사가 생략된 경우입니다.

부사절에서는 주어+동사가 자주 생략됩니다.

 

우리말로;

...에 무관심한 - be indifferent to

...에 관심/흥미가 있는 - be interested in

 

예를들어; 

(a) She was indifferent to him

(b) How can you be so indifferent to the sufferings of these children

(c) The government cannot afford to be indifferent to public opinion

( cannot afford to do sth = should not do sth )

정부가 대중의 의견에 무관심할 수 없다

(d) I am interested in French art

(e) We are so utterly different from each other
