~ "자유"라는 위대한 선물을 우리 후손에게 안전하게 전달할 수 있도록 ~
so let us mark this day with remembrance, of who we are and how far we have traveled.
In the year of America's birth, in the coldest of months, a small band of patriots huddled by
dying campfires on the shores of an icy river. The capital was abandoned. The enemy was
advancing. The snow was stained with blood. At a moment when the outcome of our revolution
was most in doubt, the father of our nation ordered these words be read to the people:
" Let it be told to the future world...that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue
could survive....that the city and the country, alarmed at one comman danger, came forth to meet it"
America. In the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these
timeless words. With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms
may come. Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey
end, that we did not turn back not did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon
us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.

그러므로 우리 이날을 우리가 누구인지, 얼마나 멀리까지 여행해왔는지 기억속에 새겨놓읍시다.
미국건국의 해에, 가장 추웠던 그때에, 소수의 애국자들이 얼음으로 뒤덥힌 강가에서 꺼져가는
모닥불을 둘러싸고 모여있었습니다. 수도(首都)는 버려졌고, 적은 진군해왔고, 하얀눈은 피로
물들어 우리의 독립혁명이 정말 실현될 수 있을지 가장 의심스러웠던 그때, 우리 조국의 아버지들은 다음의 말을 사람들에게 전하라고 하셨습니다.
" 추운 겨울의 한복판에서, 그때 오로지 희망과 미덕으로 생존할 수 있었고, 공통의 위협의
두려움에 둘러싸인 도시와 지방은 앞으로 나가서 맞서 싸웠노라고, 미래세계에의해 이렇게
말되어지도록 합시다." 라고.
미국. 공통의 위험에 직면해있고, 차가운 겨울같은 어려움에 있는 지금, 우리 이 영원한 말들을
기억합시다. 희망과 미덕으로, 얼음같이 차가운 흐름앞에 우리 다시한번 용감하게 맞섭시다,
그리고 어떤폭풍이 올지라도 견뎌냅시다.
먼훗날, 우리는 시련을 당했을때 여행을 멈추기를 거부했고, 뒤로 물러서지도 않았고,
주저하지도 않았노라고; 오히려, 저 수평선과 신께서 우리에게 주신 은총에 눈을
고정시키고 "자유"라는 그 위대한 선물을 앞으로 진행시켜 미래의 세대에 안전하게
전달했노라고 우리의 손자들에의해 말되어지도록 합시다.
여러분 감사합니다. 여러분과 미합중국에 신의 은총이 있기를 빕니다!
