( 영어 문법 - 영어 한문장 잘 쓰고 말하기 ; 접속사 even though - 3 )
- 여러분, 우리 그저, 어제, 우리 한국말로 ' ....라는 (사실)에도 불구하고.......' 라는 말을 영어로는 어떻게 말하면 좋은지를 공부했습니다. 이럴때, 영어로는, even though를 써서 표현하면 되는데, 이 even though 를 더 정확히 이해하기 위해서, even if......와 because 와 비교해서 공부해 봤습니다.
혹시, 초대받는다 해도, 난 안 갈거야.
실제, 초대받았는데도 불구하고 난 안 갔어.
실제, 초대받았기 때문에 난 갔어.
I did not go even if I am invited.
I did not go even though I was invited.
I went because I was invited.
'설사, 가령 ...초대받는다고 해도,.....' - even if......
'아니, 실제 초대받았는데도 불구하고.....' - even though.......
' 실제, 초대받았기 때문에,.......' - because.....
- 그런데, 여러분, 우리,오늘은, even though 는 사실은 although 와 같은 뜻임을 이해합시다. 그래서, 우리가 영어책을 읽다보면, even though 와 although 를 둘 다 많이 보게 되는데, 똑같은 뜻입니다. 문법적으로는, even though 가 although 보다 좀 딱딱한 표현이라고 나옵니다만, 둘 다 많이 쓰입니다. 우리 오늘은 이 점 꼭 알아둡시다.

5. She was not wearing a coat although it was pretty cold.
= She was not wearing a coat even though it was pretty cold.

물론, 위 문장들은 다, although를 even though 로 바꿔쓸 수 있는 것이죠.

그리고, although 나 even though 를 문장앞으로 가져올 수도 있죠. 이 경우에는 문장중간에 콤마를 넣어서 표현합니다.
