It is really getting cold here in Japan. Be careful not to catch a cold!

Here is today's english!

It is absolutely vital to reconcile freedom with basic

discipline in raising your child. If you indulge him

too much, you will spoil him.

 

아이를 기르는데 있어서, 자유와 규율의 발란스를

맞추는것은 아주 중요하다. 너무 응석을 받아주면,

아이를 망치게 될 것이다.

( 예의범절있는 아이로 키워야겠죠. )

 

Words,Phrases & Patterns

> reconcile A with B ; A를 B와 조화를 이루게 하다

> indulge ; 응석부리게하다,응석받이로 기르다

> spoil ; 버릇없게 키우다

 

여기서 in ...ing..... 는  ...함에 있어서, ....할때  의 뜻입니다. 

참고로 on....ing...도 많이 쓰는데, 이건 ....하자마자, ..함과

동시에...의 뜻이니 혼동하지 마세요.

 

우리말로, ....하는데 있어서 라고 말하고 싶을때는 in...ing

를 쓰시고, ....함과 동시에, ...하자마자 를 말하고 싶을때는

up(on)....ing 를 써 보세요.

 

예를들어,

a. In writing my report, I got valuable adivces from him. 

( 레포트를 쓰는데 있어서, 그의 조언은 아주 귀중했다 )

b. On hearing the result, she heaved a sigh of relief.

( 결과를 듣자마자, 그녀는 안도의 한숨을 쉬었다 )
